If you're anything like us, you're stocking up on cozy candles in preparation for the cooler months ahead. Today we're giving you some tips to ensure you're properly caring for your collection!
1. Trim Your Wick
Trim the candle wick to 1/4" before the first burn and every burn after that. This ensures an even burn and extends your candle's lifetime.
2. The First Burn is the Most Important
Allow the wax to completely melt all the way across the candle on the first burn to prevent tunneling along the sides.
3. Location Matters
Safely burn candles out of reach of children and pets. Do not use near window drapes or flammable items, and avoid placing near fans or in drafty areas to prevent excessive smoke and soot. Do not leave burning candles unattended.
4. Don't Blow It Out!
Instead, use a candle snuffer or a candle lid to extinguish the flame. This prevents wax splashing, smoke, and wick movement.
5. Cover It Up
Cover your candles when not in use. Dust and debris accumulation on the wax acts as a burn accelerant, shortening your candle's lifetime.
6. Recycle the Jar
When you've finished your candle, don't throw it out! Remove any remaining wax by safely filling the empty candle jar with boiling water. The leftover wax will melt and float to the top for easy removal once cool. The possibilities for your empty Olfactory NYC candle jar are endless!
